Jorge's Chicken & Waffles
1212 E. Apache Blvd.
Jorge's Chicken & Waffles recently opened at 1212 E. Apache Blvd. in Tempe. This restaurant puts a spin on your average chicken and waffles with a spicy twist. The fusion of soul food blended with Mexican ingredients makes Jorge's like no other spot in the country. To celebrate the opening, Jorge's is offering their Belgian Waffle for $2.99 from Friday, Feb. 27th until Friday, March 6.
Belgian Waffle Recipe
1. 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2. 1 cup warm water
3. 3 cups all-purpose flour
4. 1/2 teaspoon salt
5. 1 cup whole milk
6. 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
7. 2 large eggs, separated
8. 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
9. Confectioners' Sugar, for dusting
10. Fresh fruit for drizzling
1. In a small mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in the water. In a large mixing bowl, stir the flour with the salt. Whisk in the yeast mixture, milk, butter, egg yolks and vanilla until smooth.
2. In a medium bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Fold them into the batter and let stand for 20 minutes.
3. Heat and grease a waffle iron. Pour 1 1/4 cups of the batter into the iron and cook until the waffles are golden, approximately 3-6 minutes, depending on iron. Dust the waffles with confectioners' sugar, drizzle with fresh fruit.
