PHOENIX -- A woman and two children were critically injured after a collision sent their vehicle into a canal in Laveen Friday night, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived around 7 p.m. and found the family's white Chevrolet Impala in the canal near 35th Avenue and Dobbins Road.

Santillan said a 38-year-old woman, an 8-year-old boy and a 14-month-old boy were transported to a local trauma center in critical condition.

The driver of the other vehicle refused transport, Santillan said.

Phoenix police are investigating the cause of the crash.
