Valley man under intensive care after bike hit-and-run, no investigation from policePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- An 81-year-old man is in serious condition at a hospital after he was hit by a bike Thursday while walking with his wife near a North Phoenix canal path.
Active couple Tom Cross and his wife, Lillian, were taking a stroll when a bike sped past them, knocking Tom Cross to the ground. The collision inflicted a major head wound on Cross, and he is currently in the intensive care unit at John C. Lincoln Hospital with a major concussion.
The bicyclist did not stop or turn back.
Because the man was not hit by a vehicle, but instead a bike, there was no police investigation into the collision. According to the police, this was not a criminal act.
Neighbors have posted a sign near the canal, asking the community to be aware and respect the safety of others.
The family hopes that speaking out will encourage the biker to come forward, and serve as a warning for Valley residents everywhere.
"I’m not looking for vengeance, somebody just needs to let him know what he did," said Cross' son, Dale. "Someone needs to know that he hurt someone’s family."
