Family announces memorial service for Kayla MuellerPosted: Updated:
PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The family of a Prescott woman killed after months of captivity under Islamic State militants is planning a public memorial service.
The service to honor Kayla Mueller will be held March 7 at 10 a.m. at the Yavapai College Performance Hall in Prescott. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for seating.
The 26-year-old was an international aid worker who was captured in Syria in August 2013. Her death was confirmed earlier this month.
In an announcement sent from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office on behalf of the Muellers, the family expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support from the community over the last several weeks.
The family also said it is grateful for the effort from the local churches, schools and community groups that organized a recent candlelight service at the Courthouse Square.
"The family would now like to offer their own personal reflections of Kayla's life in this final service and invite the public, Kayla's friends, co-workers, and anyone who was touched by her life to attend," according to the memorial service announcement.
The family also thanks everyone for their prayers and encouraging words throughout this time of healing.
