Spring (training) is in the air at Scottsdale StadiumPosted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.- February means more than great weather here in Arizona. It's also the time when the Valley prepares for spring training!
On Thursday's Good Morning Arizona, 3TV's April Warnecke visited Scottsdale Stadium, home to the San Francisco Giants. The Giants were taking to the field for practice warm-ups before Spring Training next week. They'll play the Oakland As at 1:05pm on Wed March 4.
Spring Training baseball under the warm Arizona sun has been a tradition for fans since 1947, when just two teams, the Cleveland Indians and the New York Giants, came here to prepare for the rigors of the long regular season.
Today, 15 teams train in the Phoenix metropolitan area in the greatest concentration of professional baseball facilities found anywhere in the United States. For visitors, the Cactus League couldn't be more convenient, with short drive times between ballparks and a full range of hotel, dining and shopping amenities.
We also learned more Thursday about Baseball City. It's the premier, largest FanFest around Spring Training! Come and swing for the fences, test out the newest baseball products and meet baseball Hall of Famers and All-Stars!
