Police identify pedestrian killed in Florence hit-and-run; driver sought

FLORENCE, Ariz. – The Florence Police Department has identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run last week.

Dan Panessa, 56, of Florence, was found dead near Hunt Highway and Poston Butte Loop at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 19.

Investigators determined Panessa was walking on the north side of Hunt Highway when he was struck by a westbound vehicle.

Police are still searching for the driver.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a 1997 or newer Jeep TJ convertible. The color is unknown. Police said the suspect vehicle would have sustained heavy front-end and passenger-side damage, along with damage to the passenger-side windshield.
