Several Gilbert schools went on modified lockdown during suspect search

GILBERT, Ariz. – Several Gilbert schools were in modified lockdown Tuesday afternoon while police searched for a burglary suspect in the area of Greenfield and Elliot roads.

The suspect was involved in a vehicle burglary in Mesa than ran into Gilbert, according to the Mesa Police Department.

Greenfield Junior High School, Greenfield Elementary School, Gilbert Classical Academy and Christ's Greenfield Lutheran School were placed in modified lockdown shortly before 2 p.m.

Modified lockdown is "business as usual inside the school," according to Gilbert police.

The lockdowns were lifted at about 3:15 p.m.

Police said parent pickup will occur as usual. Students walking or biking home were to call their parents to pick them up.

Gilbert and Mesa police officers continue to look for the suspect described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 250 pounds, wearing a red shirt, black pants and a black hat.

Anyone who spots the suspect is asked to call Gilbert Police.
