GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A former bookstore manager for a Glendale high school is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars through a skimming operation.

Investigators with the Arizona Office of the Auditor General said Shannon May took more than $70,000 of school funds from Independence High School between November 2008 and April 2010.

Investigators said May deposited only a portion of receipts collected at the bookstore into district bank accounts.

They said there were no records to indicate how May used the money, but that she deposited more than $38,000 in her own bank accounts.

She was indicted on felony charges related to theft, misuse of public monies, fraudulent schemes and forgery.
