Police ID man's body found in Mesa alley

MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police have identified a man whose body was found in an alley Monday morning.

A police spokesman said 21-year-old Joshua E. Johnson was believed to have been involved in some sort of altercation in the area of 600 W. First Avenue before he died.

Police said Johnson's body was found about 5:40 a.m. in the alley behind some businesses at 525 W. Main St.

There were no visible injuries on the victim, but police said they were treating the death as suspicious.

Investigators were waiting on the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office for an official cause of death.

No one has been charged in the case, the spokesman said.
