Gilbert police arrest suspect in fatal drug-related shooting

GILBERT, Ariz. – Police say a shooting that left a Gilbert man dead Wednesday night was drug-related.

Gilbert police responded to a shooting in a neighborhood near Greenfield and Warner roads at approximately 8:30 p.m. and found Jovante Griffin, 22, with a gunshot wound.

Griffin was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Police said an 18-year-old woman was injured in the shooting, but she was not transported to a hospital.

Police identified 18-year-old Randy Clark, of Chandler, as a suspect. He was taken into custody after a search warrant was served on a residence at approximately 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the homicide was related to an illegal drug transaction and was an isolated incident.

Clark was booked into jail on one count of second-degree murder.
