Mohave County man arrested in death of girlfriend's sonPosted: Updated:
FORT MOHAVE, Ariz. -- Mohave County sheriff's detectives have arrested a 20-year-old man following the death of his girlfriend's 15-month-old son in October.
Tyler James Kirkpatrick, of Fort Mohave, faces charges of first-degree murder by domestic violence, second-degree murder by domestic violence and child abuse by domestic violence.
Kirkpatrick was arrested after a four-month investigation into the death of Kade Kryska, who died of traumatic brain injury suffered at his home, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said Kade's mother returned home from work on Oct. 21 and realized he was having difficulty breathing. The sheriff's office said Kade had been in Kirkpatrick's care the entire day.
Morgan Kryska rushed her son to a local hospital and the medical staff discovered he had suffered head injuries. Kade was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital where he died two days later.
Kirkpatrick was located Wednesday morning at the home he shares with Kade's mother. He briefly locked himself inside his bedroom and would not come out for detectives, according to a sheriff's office spokeswoman.
Detectives were ultimately able to talk Kirkpatrick out of the room and he was transported to the Mohave County Jail.
