GLENDALE, Ariz. – A man was burned over 20 to 30 percent of his body after his RV caught fire Monday morning, according to the Glendale Fire Department.

Capt. John Good said crews responded to a report of a fire on 59th Avenue near Bethany Home Road and found a man lying on the ground outside a burning RV. The fire was extending to an adjacent apartment.

Crews were able to stop the spread of the fire, however, the apartment sustained some smoke and water damage.

A family of four was displaced and the American Red Cross is helping them find housing.

Good said the man suffered second-degree burns to his upper torso. He was transported to the Arizona Burn Unit at Maricopa Medical Center for further treatment.

Firefighters were not able to communicate with the man because he is mute. Police said the man is able to hear, though.

A fire investigator was on scene to determine the cause.
