LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) -- A Lake Havasu City woman is accused of fraudulently using multiple credit cards to pay for water service.

Lake Havasu City police said Wednesday that 64-year-old Mercedes Hawthorne was being held on one charge of aggravated identity theft and seven counts of theft of a credit card.

City water officials say they suspected a customer was using fraudulent credit card numbers to pay for water services through an automated billing system.

Police served a search warrant on a home on Feb. 6. The search turned up several credit card numbers, two computers and numerous documents.

Hawthorne made an initial appearance in court and was ordered held on a $50,000 bond.
