PHOENIX -- A suspect on the loose in north Phoenix Thursday morning made his way into a woman's home before police were able to take him into custody.

Phoenix police officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near Union Hills Drive and Seventh Street just before 7 a.m.

According to Sgt. Vince Lewis, it appeared the man was attempting to steal a car.

When officers arrived, he fled the area on foot.

Officers tracked the man to a nearby house, which he had entered through an open back door, according to Lewis.

The residents made it out safely and officers found the man hiding inside the home. He was taken into custody with the assistance of a K-9.

Lewis said the man will be treated for a dog bite prior to being booked into jail. He is facing a charge of burglary and unrelated warrants.

The man's name has not been released.
