Forget loose change! Pay for parking with your cell phonePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Forget digging around in your pockets for loose change. On Thursday, Phoenix rolled out its new Pango Pay-by-Phone app for on-street parking.
With Pango's advanced technology, residents and visitors will be able pay for parking at parking meters through the ease of a mobile phone app.
"You go to the website mypangocom, you download the app, you put in your name, your credit card information, and your license plate," says Pango president Neil Edwards. "Then you go to the meter, you enter the number of the space, you press start and then that's it."
The app will let drivers add more time to their parking meters from a remote location, track where they parked and also receive discounts from local participating businesses.
"You can see where the local garages are," says Edwards. "And you can find coupons for local businesses."
Using the app will add an extra seven cents to the transaction, on top of the parking fee.
If you want the reminder service that sends you alerts if you're getting close to running out of time, it will cost an additional $1.99 per month.
Pango has a one-year contract with Phoenix to provide the service, but there are options to renew the deal two more years.
