PHOENIX -- An 84-year-old woman was killed in a crash in central Phoenix Sunday, according to police.

Police said Mary Ann Carlson Hess was driving her Toyota Prius northbound on 15th Avenue around 12:30 p.m. and didn't stop at a red light at Bethany Home Road.

She entered the intersection and was T-boned by an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 36-year-old man.

Hess was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was taken to a hospital with cuts, abrasions and a minor head injury, but he is expected to be OK.

Police said speed and impairment did not appear to be factors in the collision.
