PHOENIX -- Home Depot's Debbie Hernandez showed us how to do a string art project for Valentine's Day.

Materials:
-4-foot-by-12-inch pine plank cut into 12-by-12-inch squares. We can cut it at The Home Depot (you'll get four pieces)
-Pin nails
-Paint or stain of your choice
-Wire, twins or string
-Upholstery tacks
-Hammer
-Scissors
-Piece of paper to cut out heart template
-Hook for hanging
-Bow or ribbon (optional)

Instructions:
-Paint, stain or color wash board. Let dry.
-Fold paper in half, cut half of a heart out, unfold to use full heart as a template. (Small heart if stringing the background, larger heart if stringing the inside of the heart.)
-Place heart in the center of the board and trace around the heart with a pencil.
-Hammer the nails all the way around the heart approximately 1/2 inch apart, if stringing the inside of the heart.
-If stringing the background of the heart, also place nails around the entire perimeter of the board. Hint: put nails in the corners, then place a nail in the middle of those nails, then in the middle of those nails. It makes it easier for spacing purposes.
-Tie a knot or wrap the wire around the first nail, then proceed to wrap the string of wire back and forth until the entire heart or the background is covered. (You can go around as many times as you wish.)
-Tie a knot around the last nail and trim the ends.
-Nail in upholstery tacks around the side edges of the board for a finishing touch.
-Add a ribbon or bow or hook to hang your new string art project.
-Hang it up and enjoy!

You can also make a letter, geometric shapes, etc. Be creative and have fun!
