Man arrested in fatal Phoenix hit-and-runPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Phoenix Saturday evening.
Joseph Patrick McDonald was arrested a few days after detectives located the vehicle suspected in the hit-and-run near Bell Road and 12th Street.
Police had been searching for the vehicle's driver following the death of Daniel R. Miller. Police said the 77-year-old was crossing Bell Road mid-block when he was struck by a 2002 Hyundai Accent. He died at an area trauma hospital.
The driver fled the scene without providing any aid or assistance.
Officer James Holmes said the vehicle was found abandoned on Sunday. Detectives began follow-up interviews and identified McDonald as the driver.
He was located Wednesday near Bell Road and 17th Avenue. He faces one count of leaving the scene of a traffic collision involving death/serious injury.
Holmes said McDonald also had felony and misdemeanor warrants for his arrest, his driving privileges had been suspended and he was found in possession of suspected dangerous drugs.
He is being held on $250,000 bond.
