Glendale police capture armed burglary suspect

GLENDALE, Ariz.-- An armed burglary suspect was captured by Glendale police after a lengthy search Thursday morning.

Police said the suspect, who was considered armed and dangerous, was captured in the backyard of a home in the area of 61st and Orangewood avenues about 6:15 a.m.

Landon Hayes, 30, was taken to a hospital with wounds caused by the police department's K-9s, who aided in the suspect's capture.

Glendale police, SWAT and K-9 units swept the neighborhood Thursday morning, looking for the suspect who ran from a crash scene.

The suspect was reportedly trying to break into an apartment at a complex at 4400 W. Bethany Home Road about 1 a.m. when police arrived, a police spokesman said.

The suspect took off in a car and crashed at 61st and Orangewood avenues.

A passenger was still in the car, but the driver ran off.

Police were searching an area at 61st and Glendale avenues.
