Man, woman injured in explosion at Glendale apartment

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A man and woman suffered minor injuries in an explosion at a Glendale apartment Wednesday night, according to police.

Glendale police and firefighters responded to an apartment near 53rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road just before 6 p.m. and found that there had been an explosion and a small fire in one unit.

A man and woman in their early 20s were found at the scene.

The man was treated on scene for a minor injury and the woman was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Glendale police spokesman Sgt. David Vidaure said it appears the incident may be related to illicit drug activity. Investigators were still trying to determine the exact type of activity Wednesday night, but Vidaure said it was not a methamphetamine lab.

Police were also trying locate two people who were seen running from the apartment.
