PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix plans to convert all 90,000 of the city's street lights to LEDs.

According to Mayor Greg Stanton, LEDs can cut energy use by up to 60 percent and can last years longer than traditional street lights. Councilman Bill Gates estimates the annual savings at $2.8 million.

The city council last week approved a plan to seek bids for the work.
