Ariz. man gets life in prison in attack with scissorsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- A Cibecue man convicted of killing his girlfriend with household scissors has been sentenced to life in prison.
A jury found 36-year-old Willard John guilty of second-degree murder last July. He was sentenced this week in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.
Authorities say John had a lengthy history of abusing Norma Jean Henry, who was the mother of his two young children. John told authorities he drank at least 30 cans of beer before attacking Henry on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in 2012.
Court documents show John stabbed Henry repeatedly in the back and slashed her throat. Prosecutors say John cut his own throat after the killing but survived his injuries.
