GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers will be attending the Super Bowl after all.

On Thursday, the CEO of Modell's Sporting Goods presented Weiers with two tickets to the big game.

Mitchell Modell stepped in to help after learning the mayor didn't receive tickets from the NFL.

"To see a Super Bowl played in your hometown was always on my bucket list," Modell said in a statement. "Once I heard about the story, there's no way I could let Mayor Weiers miss out on the opportunity."

Weiers has been seen as uncooperative by the league, after expressing concerns that his cash-strapped city would be on the hook for millions of dollars to increase public safety for the event.

"I'm not bitter at all, I mean, at all," he said Thursday. "If we could get a Super Bowl every year, I'd take it on that one little caveat that we get help with our public safety."

Weiers plans to write a check for the face value and donate the money to a charity.
