TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Former U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi is appealing a judge's refusal to allow him to put off serving his prison sentence in a corruption case.
A lawyer for Renzi on Thursday filed a notice of appeal after U.S. District Judge David Bury earlier this week denied a motion to grant bail to Renzi pending the filing of a planned petition to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Bury previously ordered Renzi to surrender on Feb. 13 to serve his three-year sentence on corruption and other charges
A federal appeals court has already upheld Renzi's convictions and sentence.
Renzi was convicted of conspiring to use his 1st Congressional District seat to make two companies buy land owned by his former business associate so that the associate could repay a debt he owed to Renzi.
