PHOENIX -- A child was in critical condition after being ejected in a collision involving a stolen truck that ran a red light at a West Valley intersection late Sunday night.

The child was with her mother and four siblings in an SUV going west on Thomas Road when the stolen truck driven by a 17-year-old girl ran the light at 83rd Avenue and struck the SUV, police said.

The teen tried to run, but was caught by police a short distance from the scene, police said.

The child was ejected and suffered "significant injuries," police said.

The rest of the family was taken to hospitals for treatment.

Police initially tried to stop the stolen truck near 75th Avenue and McDowell before the girl drove away.

The intersection was expected to be closed until about noon Monday, police said.

No other information was available.
