KINGMAN, Ariz. -- Two Kingman women were arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly stealing a person's horse.

Mohave County Sheriff's deputies arrested 21-year-old Laura Noreen Smith and 18-year-old Kimberly Catherine Loller after seeing a horse in a backyard in an area not zoned for livestock.

Around 1:30 p.m., they contacted a man at the home near Ryan Avenue and Castle Rock Drive. According to the sheriff's office, the man said his sister, Smith, and his girlfriend, Loller, told him they brought the horse home Tuesday night. He told deputies the women were at a store buying food for the horse.

Deputies learned a horse had been reported stolen and contacted the victim, who identified its special markings and unique shoes. The victim responded and confirmed ownership of the horse.

When the women returned home shortly after 2 p.m., they told the deputies a family friend named Steve gave them the horse Tuesday night. According to the sheriff's office, they were unable to provide Steve's last name or phone number.

A neighbor reported seeing Smith and Loller walking the horse in the area early Wednesday morning, and Smith then said they got the horse that morning.

The women were taken into custody without incident and booked into the Mohave County Jail on suspicion of felony theft.
