St. Mary's Food Bank holds annual 'Super Citrus Saturday'

Posted: Updated:

If you, like many Valley residents, have citrus trees at your home, you can help those in need by donating your excess fruit.

St. Mary's Food Bank is holding their sixth annual "Super Citrus Saturday" at four Valley locations on Saturday Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for people to make their tax-deductible produce donation.

The four "Super Citrus Saturday" locations for 2015 are:

  • North Phoenix Baptist Church (Central Avenue and Bethany Home Road)
  • Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ (56th Street and Lafayette)
  • St. Mary's Food Bank, Surprise Location (13050 W. Elm Street).
  • McDowell Mountain Plaza (10111 E. Bell Road - Bell Road and Thompson Peak)
Last year, St. Mary's Food Bank collected more than two million pounds of citrus through the program. Tens of thousands of gallons of grapefruit juice was bottled and distributed well after the growing season ended through a cooperative effort with Sun Orchard in Tempe.
