Phoenix weather: A chilly Friday morning aheadPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A chilly night is on tap for the Valley, and by Friday morning, look for lows in the upper-30s to mid-40s around metro Phoenix.
After that, we’ll see a nice warming trend for the weekend with highs returning to the 70s.
The upper low that has brought breezy conditions to much of south-central Arizona this afternoon is now moving into New Mexico.
A strong northerly flow aloft is expected to rapidly weaken this evening as the low moves off to the east. That’s what is setting us up for the chilly morning Friday.
The combination of lighter winds, a very dry air mass and clear skies will result in a much cooler night tonight than what we saw last night.
Friday is expected to be dry and cool with some increase in cloudiness as a weak weather disturbance drops through the state.
After that, a warming trend with mostly clear skies is expected for the weekend, as strong high-pressure ridging builds eastward into the Great Basin and an upper-level cut-off low develops over the eastern Pacific waters just west of Baja Mexico.
Eventually, the low will bring us a slight chance for showers Tuesday of next week.
