PHOENIX -- A police chase ended in a serious rollover in Phoenix Tuesday night.
Authorities said a driver failed to yield for a Mesa police officer near Dobson Road and U.S. 60 shortly after 7 p.m.
Department of Public Safety officers located the vehicle near 32nd Street and Interstate 10. Spokesman Raul Garcia said the headlights were off and the vehicle was maneuvering dangerously.
A DPS officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated. Garcia said the vehicle reached speeds of more than 100 mph and transitioned onto northbound I-17.
The driver lost control on the Durango curve and the vehicle rolled over, partially ejecting the passenger.
The driver and passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle. The two men in their 30s suffered critical injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
I-17 was shut down northbound at 19th Avenue until 5 a.m. Wednesday.
