GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Did you know that the average American eats about 10 pounds of chocolate a year? You can get a head start on your annual consumption at the 20th Annual Glendale Chocolate Affaire.
The event is sponsored by Arizona's famous candy makers, Cerreta's. The candy company has been busy whipping up sweet treats for the festivities, and will be offering behind-the-scenes tours of its chocolate factory.
The 20th Annual Glendale Chocolate Affaire will take place Super Bowl weekend, Friday, Jan. 30 and Saturday, Jan. 31. The Glendale Chocolate Affaire in Historic Downtown Glendale will be a chocolate lover's paradise, with special activities geared toward sports fans, as well.
You won't want to miss the football-shaped chocolates! And there will be a "Super Street" area and team zones for all the Super Bowl fans taking in the sights before Sunday's big game.
Chocolate purveyors from Arizona and around the nation will gather in Glendale for the award-winning festival.
Visitors will delight in the nearly 40 chocolate vendors. Treats will feature confections like chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate-drizzled kettle corn, chocolate-covered nuts, berry chocolate kabobs, fudge popsicles, chocolate-covered cheesecake and bananas, fried Twinkies and fried Snickers dipped in chocolate.
There is also free admission and free parking!
The Chocolate Affaire is sponsored by Arizona's famous candy makers, Cerreta's. The candy factory will offer tours all weekend, so visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at how the chocolatiers create everyone's favorite candy.
The event focuses not only on chocolate, but on romance as well.
Over the years, the festival has become the largest gathering of national romance novelists in the Southwest. This symposium of literary romantics offers fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with authors, as well as the chance to attend free writing workshops given by the experts.
In addition, the event will feature a Plein Air competition on Saturday that will award several prizes for paintings completed on-site or around Glendale that day.
Families with children will all the activities, including hands-on arts and crafts, face-painting and a rock-climbing wall.
