PHOENIX -- A 3-year-old pit bull mix is now without a home after neighbors claim the owner left the dog on a couch when he moved out of his home near 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road.

“The gentleman moved out of his home and left his furniture and some garbage on the curb for pickup, and also left his dog,” said Melissa Gable with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.

A neighbor took a photo of the abandoned dog and posted it on Facebook. The photo outraged a lot of people and even sparked interest in some wanting to give the dog a new home.

“We have been inundated with calls people from the public, rescue groups, people who want to step forward and help,” Gable said.

At this time, the dog remains with Animal Care and Control as Phoenix police determine what charges, if any, the previous owner might get.

“We just wanted to let the public know that he's OK," Gable said.
