PHOENIX (AP) -- Medals slated to be given out this weekend during P.F. Chang's Rock `n' Roll Arizona Marathon events have arrived just in the nick of time.

Race officials say the medals were delivered early Saturday, two hours before a scheduled 5K race in Tempe.

In what turned out to be a race against the clock, the medals' availability for Sunday's marathon, half-marathon and 10K was put into doubt because of a backup in shipping at sea ports along the West Coast.

Organizers warned the more than 22,000 participants that they might have to receive their medals by mail.

In recent months, a protracted contract dispute between dockworkers and their employers has spilled from the negotiating table onto the docks - and containers are taking longer to reach their destinations.
