Weekend street closures around Phoenix

The City of Phoenix has issued the following advisory on road closures.

CAMPBELL AVENUE – 106TH TO 107TH AVENUES 

Campbell Avenue between 106th and 107th avenues is scheduled to be closed on a 24-hour basis starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, through Friday, Jan. 23.

Traffic will be detoured at 103rd Avenue and at 107th Avenue to Indian School or Camelback roads.

Local and business access will be maintained.

Pedestrian access will be maintained.

This restriction is for installation of irrigation pipe to cover the Roosevelt Irrigation District canal along the eastside of 107th Avenue.

CITYSCAPE PHOENIX ICE RINK

Central Avenue between Jefferson and Washington streets is currently closed through February.

During this event, Central Avenue through traffic will be detoured at Jefferson Street to Second Street. 

2015 P.F. CHANG’S ROCK ’N’ ROLL ARIZONA FULL MARATHON

This major event takes place starting at 7:24 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18.

The event starts in downtown Phoenix (CityScape) and ends in Tempe (Sun Devil Stadium).

The following streets will be closed at 3 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, to stage the starting area:

Washington Street – First Avenue to Third Street

Central Avenue – Jefferson to Adams streets

First Street – Jefferson to Adams streets

All streets along the route will be closed at 6 a.m.  Start times and the race routes are as follows:

Marathon Wheelchair Invitational Start – 7:24 a.m.

Marathon Start – 7:30 a.m.

Washington Street – Second Street to Seventh Avenue

Seventh Avenue – Washington Street to Missouri Avenue

Missouri Avenue – Seventh Avenue to 24th Street

24th Street – Missouri Avenue to Camelback Road

Camelback Road – 24th Street to Arcadia Drive

Arcadia Drive – Camelback to Indian School roads

Indian School Road – Arcadia Drive to Scottsdale Road

Indian School Road – Scottsdale Road to 48th Street

48th Street – Indian School Road to Van Buren Street

Van Buren Street – 48th Street to Mill Avenue

Mill Avenue – Priest Drive to Sun Devil Stadium (finish)

All other major/collector streets, local streets, and driveways will be closed along the route as the race approaches and reopened as it proceeds.  All streets will be open to normal traffic by 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and business access.

Note: The P.F. Chang’s Rock’n’Roll Half-Marathon will be held in Scottsdale and Tempe at 7:30 a.m.

McDowell Road between 52nd Street and the Galvin Parkway will be closed and Galvin Parkway between McDowell Road and Van Buren Street will be restricted between 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. during the half-marathon race.

Access to the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Gardens will be maintained.

Note: To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow for extra time during their Sunday commute, and to use the ADOT freeway system when traversing the course route.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. COMMERATIVE MARCH

This event will take place starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.

The march will begin at 15th and Jefferson streets and will end at Third and Moreland streets.

The following streets will be restricted:

Washington Street – Third to 16th streets

Fifth Street – Washington to Roosevelt streets

Third Street – Roosevelt to Moreland streets

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

All streets will open to normal traffic by 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. CELEBRATION 

This event will take place at Margaret T. Hance Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.

The following streets will be closed starting at 5 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, through midnight on Tuesday, Jan. 20, to stage this event.

Moreland Street – First to Third streets 

Second Street – Culver to Willetta streets

Local access will be maintained.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

All streets will open to normal traffic by midnight on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

REOPENING AFTER RESTRICTIONS:

35th Avenue and McDowell Road

83rd Avenue – Buckeye to Lower Buckeye roads

CONTINUING RESTRICTIONS:

Black Mountain Boulevard – Deer Valley Road to Rough Rider Road, full closure due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) road widening and improvement project, completion scheduled for January.

Broadway Road “Avenida Rio Salado” – Central to 43rd avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide "connectivity" to the west valley, completion scheduled for August. During the “Avenida Rio Salado” project, Broadway Road will be restricted between Seventh Street and 51st Avenue. Broadway Road – 15th to 35th avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer main improvement project, completion scheduled for January. Dunlap Avenue – Central to Second avenues, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas Corporation gas line project, completion scheduled for January.

Osborn Road – 12th to 14th streets, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department project, completion scheduled for February.

Third Street – Virginia Avenue to Indian School Road, partial restriction due to an Arizona Public Service infrastructure improvement project, completion scheduled for January.

 

Seventh Avenue – Encanto Boulevard and McDowell Road, partial restriction due a city of Phoenix Water Services Department project to install replacement water service connections and the abandonment of an existing water line, completion scheduled for January.

Seventh Avenue and Osborn Road, partial restriction due to city of Phoenix Water Services Department repair and replacement of a 24-inch water main and related valves and vault, completion scheduled for January.

24th Street – Broadway Road to University Drive, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer improvement project at 24th and Wood streets, completion scheduled for January. For additional information, call the project hotline at 602-235-2839.

Northwest light rail extension - Ongoing restrictions along 19th Avenue and cross streets related to light rail northwest extension construction.  19th Avenue between Bethany Home Road and Dunlap Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for utility relocation.  More information at valleymetro.org.
