GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Following up on a tip that came into a new drug hotline number, Maricopa County sheriff's deputies seized 519 marijuana plants being illegally grown in two Glendale residences.

Deputies found 423 plants and all kinds of growing apparatus at a home near Dysart Road and Glendale Avenue Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

MCSO officials said James Joseph Goulding, 29, was taken into custody after he led deputies to a second residence where they seized 96 additional plants, 6 pounds of packaged marijuana, a small amount of LSD and a 12-gauge shotgun.

Deputies were acting on a tip that came into Sheriff Joe Arpaio's new drug hotline number. That number was recently displayed on nine MCSO transport vans that encourage the public to report drug crimes.

"We've already received over 50 tips on this hotline in a few short weeks which resulted in 31 investigations not including today's seizure," Arpaio said in the news release. "I'd say that's a good return on investment."

In a separate case, deputies seized 32 marijuana plants, 4 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia from a Gilbert residence Wednesday night. Two people were arrested and booked into jail. Their names were not released.
