TEMPE, Ariz. -- A Tempe man faces child abuse charges after police say he left his two young children home alone Tuesday morning.

According to court documents, Tom Bobo Jr. left his 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son inside his apartment near Baseline Road and Hardy Drive while he dropped off two other sons at school, put gas in his vehicle then went to Kiwanis Park to relax.

Police said the children were without any supervision for at least one and a half hours.

A neighbor heard the children crying and saw them walking around outside their apartment. Court records show the girl was wearing pajamas and sandals and the boy was in a T-shirt and urine-soaked diaper.

Police said the rear door of the apartment was unlocked and the front door's latch lock is easily opened and did not have any child-proofing.

According to police, Bobo admitted he knowingly left the children alone, believing they would still be asleep.

He was booked into the Tempe City Jail and is being held on $2,500 bond.
