Celebrate 'Pizza Week' with healthy pizzas from Whole FoodsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- For some of us, every week is pizza week. But this week is "officially" known across the country as National Pizza Week.
To celebrate, Javier Soto checked out some tasty new pizza offerings from Whole Foods.
And we know that everyone is trying to think "healthy" and stick to their resolutions. But Whole Foods Market offers lighter, healthier pizza options.
(But don't worry. They have some decadent pies, as well!)
The pizzas are made with organic and local ingredients, and natural meats. The "Health Starts Here" and rice crusts are full of flavor and healthier than traditional pizzas. So it turns out that hand-crafted, artisan pizzas can be enjoyed without the guilt or sacrificing taste.
Some of those unique pizzas at Whole Foods include:
-BBQ Vegan: spicy BBQ sauce, spinach, onions, peppers, pineapple, mushrooms and broccoli
-Mediterranean: mozzarella, feta cheese, artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, chopped tomatoes, lemon zest and caramelized onions
-Tropical Heat: pineapple, jalapeño peppers, ham and fresh mozzarella
- Hummus & Caramelized Onion: hummus, caramelized onion, arugula, Kalamata olives, thyme
-Mushroom Chorizo: tomato sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms, vegetarian chorizo
-Potato Skin: Mashed potatoes, shredded mozzarella, cheddar cheese, bacon with sour cream on the side (this is a more decadent option!)
- Fig & Prosciutto: Adriatic fig spread, prosciutto, gorgonzola
- The Specially: mozzarella, truffle Gouda, mushrooms, shaved Parmesan and fresh chives (another decadent option)
Each of these pizzas can be made with vegan cheese, on whole wheat, rice crust or Whole Foods Market's Health Starts Here crust.
