PHOENIX -- Police have arrested a suspect in the June shooting death of a man in Phoenix.

Sammy Lewis Graham, 27, has been booked on a first-degree murder charge in the killing of 23-year-old Jonas Asefaw.

Around 11:30 p.m. on June 4, Phoenix police officers responded to townhomes near 24th Street and Broadway Road for a report of shots fired. They found Asefaw with a fatal gunshot wound.

Witnesses reported seeing two men running from the scene, but police said witness information has been slow coming because of possible gang involvement.

While investigating the recent homicide of 17-year-old Brianna Wells, detectives received additional information about the homicide of Asefaw. Based on that information, they arrested Graham for his murder.

Police said Graham is not being detained for Wells' death. Her body was found on Dec. 29 in a Phoenix alley.

Graham was also booked on a weapons violation and an outstanding felony warrant.

Investigators believe there are other witnesses to Asefaw's death and are asking anyone with information to call the police department at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
