PHOENIX -- President Obama stopped at a south Phoenix housing development called Neuva Villas at Beverly.
Funding for the single-family housing project came from the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008. The subdivision is expected to have 50 houses.
The unannounced visit surprised many that live in the community.
"It was mind blowing. It was crazy!" said Amber Lell. She and her daughter were greeted in their pajamas by President Obama.
"Most 16-year-olds don't meet the president!" said Cedric Garcia, who also got a handshake.
