PHOENIX (AP) -- The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has a new chairman.

The five-member board on Wednesday unanimously elected Republican Steve Chucri (CHEW-kree) as chairman for the next two years.

The Mesa native is a former restaurant association official who has served on the board for two years.

He represents a district that stretches from Mesa to Fountain Hills and Scottsdale.

Chucri replaces Supervisor Denny Barney as chairman.
