PHOENIX -- One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a fire at a Phoenix condominium late Tuesday night.
The fire was burning when firefighters arrived at the two-story unit, but they were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area, a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said.
The homeowner said she was awakened by a smoke alarm and then could smell smoke. She said she was able to get everyone out of the house, but a woman in her 20s was taken to a hospital after she experienced difficulty breathing from inhaling smoke during their escape, the spokesman said.
She was in stable condition and was expected to recover, the spokesman said.
The Red Cross was assisting the displaced occupants, the spokesman said.
The cause of the fire was not known and the investigation was continuing, the spokesman said.
