Bank robbery, barricade in Sun City; one person in custodyPosted: Updated:
SUN CITY, Ariz. -- Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies have one person in custody, following a bank robbery and barricade situation in Sun City.
Deputies say the suspect robbed an AmTrust Bank on Tuesday afternoon, then fled to a residential neighborhood near 107th Avenue & Union Hills.
A tracking device planted in the money bag led police to the suspect's location.
Sheriff's deputies believed the suspect had some type of pipe bomb or explosive device, so SWAT teams and a robot were brought in.
One man has been taken into custody, but authorities have not confirmed whether that man is the bank robbery suspect. But an MCSO spokesperson says the vehicle in the driveway matches the one at the bank.
