PHOENIX -- At just 11 years old, Valley resident Mia McPoland has had more than 100 blood transfusions.

Mia was born with Diamond-Blackfan anemia, a rare blood disorder that prevents her bone marrow from producing red blood cells. She receives a blood transfusion every month.

She and her mother, Kristi McPoland, have made it their mission to encourage others to donate blood

3TV is sponsoring the Saving Arizona Blood Drive from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4 at Tempe Center of the Arts (700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ 85281).

Donors will receive vouchers for a free Phoenix Open ticket and a free 14-inch cheese pizza from Streets of New York.
