LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) -- Lake Havasu City plans to use Police Department divers to recover broken London Bridge pieces that fell into a Lake Havasu channel as a result of a Dec. 12 automobile accident.
Today' News-Herald reports that the police dive team may do the work as early as next week. It's expected to take several hours and include the use of a city crane.
Parts of the bridge's granite side fell into Bridgewater Channel when struck by a truck.
City Manager Charlie Cassens says using police divers not only will save time and money for the city but also provide a training opportunity for the dive team.
Cassens says a contractor will be used in the repair of the bridge once the recovery has finished.
