SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The first face a Valley couple saw as they rang in the new year was Jack Nicholson's, but not the actor.

Technically, his name is Jackson Nicholson, and he was the first baby born in the Valley in 2015.

Mom and Dad said they're just happy that Jack was born happy and healthy.

Brett Nicholson and Christine Provencio are first-time parents.

"Feels great. Like they said, you're part of a miracle. It changes your life," Nicholson said. "I just can't believe how perfect he is, how quiet he is. I'm just glad he's healthy."

Dad admits he was a nervous wreck during his wife's labor.

“She was in labor for a while. Yeah, I was concerned," he said.

Provencio told 3TV her labor lasted 23 hours.

"It was quite an ordeal to say the least," she said.

Provencio said she's just glad her family was there through it all, especially her mother-in-law.

"That means the world to me," Provencio said.

"I don't think my wife could have done it without her," Nicholson said, choking back tears. “I'd like to thank my mom very much."

Once the labor was over, they realized their baby was the first New Year’s baby. He was born at 12:01 a.m. at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center.

"How exciting is that," Provencio said.

Nicholson said he wanted to make sure his son had a strong name, so he chose the name Jack.

“I thought that was cute," Provencio said.

His wife added "son,” so his full first name would be Jackson.

"A general's name is Jackson and a president, so I really like the history behind the name," she said.

Dad is already enjoying parenthood so much that he said he’s thinking of having another baby.

"I am ready for another one, but it takes two to tango, so I've got to see what my partner says about that,” Nicholson said.

His wife responded, "No, I haven't thought that far in advance. We're just trying to get this one home for right now.”

Jackson is 8 pounds, 6 ounces and 21 inches long.
