PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix police say it received over 200 reports of gunshots right around midnight on New Year's Eve but that the number was significantly down from a year ago.

Sgt. Trent Crump says there were 206 calls about shots fired during the hour straddling midnight, down 22 percent from last year and down 16 percent from the average for the past five years.

Crump says no arrests were logged as of Thursday morning for New Year's Eve violations of the state law that bars discharging a firearm with criminal negligence within a municipality.
