PHOENIX -- We'd all love to get fit in the new year. But often our busy lives get in the way of regular exercise. But one fitness expert says it could be possible to shape up with a workout that takes just three minutes a day.

Jolene Goring is a certified holistic nutritionist, as well as the fitness director at TriVita Wellness Center. She specializes in helping people to be healthier while having fun. She offers up a brand new workout to kick off the brand new year.

Here are her suggestions:
1. Choose ONE area of the body to work. (For example, the lower body.)
2. Choose TWO different exercises to work that body part. (For example, sumo squat and jump squat.)
3. Alternate 10 reps of each exercise for THREE minutes.

The next day, choose a different body part to work. For example:
1. ONE area - upper body.
2. TWO exercises: push-ups and tricep dips.
3. Alternate 10 reps of each exercise for THREE minutes.

This is most effective if you do it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, because your body has been fasting and the extra calories burned will come straight from the stored fat. This also sets your body up to burn fat all day long.
