Man, 18, suspected in numerous Prescott Valley vehicle burglariesPosted: Updated:
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- An 18-year-old Chino Valley man has been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries in Yavapai County the day after Christmas.
Several car owners called Prescott Valley police on Friday after their vehicles were burglarized, according to a police department news release.
During an investigation into one of the burglaries, officers learned a credit card stolen from the vehicle had been used at a local convenience store later in the day.
Investigators watched surveillance footage and identified a vehicle and obtained a photo of the suspect who used the credit card.
The vehicle in the footage was impounded by the Chino Valley Police Department after a hit-and-run crash moments earlier from which the driver fled.
Prescott Valley investigators contacted the vehicle's owner, who identified Justin Sandy as the driver of the vehicle during the time of the burglaries.
Officers found several items connected with the burglaries inside the vehicle and Chino Valley police already had Sandy in custody on their case and turned him over to the Prescott Valley Police Department on Saturday.
Officers said Sandy denied any knowledge or involvement in the burglaries.
Sandy was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on multiple charges of burglary as well as theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
