PHOENIX -- The average American family spends about $1,000 on holiday shopping, and about 62 percent of Americans admit to putting some or all of those purchases on credit cards, according to Stephanie Fierro with the Frutkin Law Firm.
If you've racked up some holiday debt, Fierro has some tips for getting it paid off in the new year:
1. Come up with a budget
2. Return unused items you bought for yourself on an impulse
3. Eat through the food already stored in your house to cut down your grocery bill
4. Consider transferring balances to cards with lower interest rates
