TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say they have dismantled an illegal alcohol distilling operation at a Tucson apartment complex.

On the request of family members, Pima County Sheriff's deputies conducted a welfare check Tuesday night at the apartment complex.

Their investigation revealed the presence of an illegal still and deplorable living conditions within the apartment.

Deputies also located numerous weapons including two assault rifles and several thousand rounds of ammunition.

Authorities say a 25-year-old man who lived in the apartment suffered from various untreated injuries and infections and has had numerous contacts with deputies dating back to 2006.

Investigators say the man appeared unstable and was referred to the mental health system and is receiving care for his other conditions.

The name of the man wasn't immediately released Wednesday.
