Grocery stores packed with last-minute shoppersPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Several grocery stores are closing early Wednesday night for the holiday, which means you can expect some long lines.
There are plenty of deals to choose from no matter which grocery store you go to, but since many stores are closing their doors early Wednesday and on Christmas day, shoppers are rushing to get their last-minute items crossed off their list for Christmas dinner.
As people get into the Christmas spirit, they're scrambling to get dinner on the table, but first they need to get their grocery shopping done.
"Just last-minute things right now," said Mary Anne Boccieri.
It’s a last-minute chore some shoppers are starting to regret because of all of the holiday traffic.
"I’m all about convenience,” said shopper Tracey Bell. “In fact, I don't even like to shop this time of year."
"He said we can stop at another store, and I said, ‘I don't think so. One stop is enough today for us,’ " Boccieri said.
"I don't want to get caught up in the traffic over there," said Lynne Blake.
Some shoppers couldn't find parking right away, but Bell said her neighborhood grocery store parking lot wasn't too full.
“It wasn't too bad,” she said. And if it was, "I would have gone away. It’s not worth it," she said.
Elexia Torres said she's been to three stores searching for one Christmas item.
"I went to Trader Joe's. I had to get other stuff. Then went to Fry’s and then I thought, let me try here before I try yet another store, and I found something better," Torres said.
She was looking for Christmas dough to make cookies for Santa with her 5-year-old daughter.
“I totally forgot that we had to make cookies for Santa tonight,” Torres said. “Santa will be happy. He'll bring her presents now."
Many grocery stores will be closed Christmas day, so if you forget something Wednesday night and need something, make sure to call ahead and see if a store is open.
